Bob Starkey from the legendary Australian rock band Skyhooks Died at the age of 73.

The band announced his death on their Facebook page this morning, writing that he died in an accident. Fight Leukemia.

“It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Bongo Starkey early this morning,” the statement read.

“He has bravely battled leukemia over the past year and hopes to get back on the road performing more shows.”

The guitarist was diagnosed with “aggressive leukemia” at the beginning of the year. 

“Music was in his blood until the end of his life. Bob, the guitarist for the iconic Skyhooks and the youngest member of the band, enjoyed the theatrics, from dramatic facial makeup to unique stage costumes,” the statement continued.

“The music always came first, and touring and playing on stage was his absolute joy.”

“The members of Skyhooks are deeply saddened by the loss of our bandmate and send our condolences to Bob’s family.”

The statement also said he died while hugging his “fur baby” Bonnie.

His daughter Indiana also released a statement via the band's Facebook page.

“He will be greatly missed by daughters Indiana and Arabella, grandchildren Phoenix and Lucia, partner Chris, great partner Ian and sons-in-law Simon and Chris.

“Thanks to everyone for their support, he felt loved until the end.”

Starkie is the band's guitarist, joining the band in 1973, replacing his brother Peter Starkie on guitar.

After the band reunited multiple times, Bob Starkie continued to keep their music alive with his own touring show, “Bongo” Starkie's Skyhooks Show, which performed the band's biggest hits across Australia.
