Moulin Rouge resonates with music lovers in Austin

The show starts exactly what you expect. The dazzling showman lighting shows the background, which is the club's best belt, and it's the lyrics of the infamous hit “Lady Marmalade”. If you want to follow the song's selection throughout the show, Playbill is missing that page. That's because there are so many pop montages weaving in the performance that it's impossible for them to list them. Just know you'll hear dozens of music you know and love.

But the best performances are songs written specifically to support this story. The original songs from the movie are the highlights, although Elton John's “Your Song” is also great. As for Satine, the lead role in the musical (and this particular actor has performed best), she has many great performances, most notably her opening number “Glittering Diamond”, which is “Diamond is the Girl's Best Friend” (Marilyn Monroe) and “Material Girl” (Madonna) (Madonna).

Now, let's talk about what really makes this show shine – scenes and lighting design! Even in moments when the show is flat, aesthetics can make up for it. It's really a dazzling show that will attract all your senses. Well, maybe not smelling – though they should consider adding it!

One-on-one with the actor

We talked to actor Kaitlin Mesh, who made her national tour debut. Kaitlin took part in the tour after spending nearly six years on Broadway with the Moulin Rouge musical (OBC U/s Nini). Although she has never been to Austin before, she is excited about authentic Mexican (read Texmex) cuisine and find out what makes Austin “weird”.

Of course, we can’t miss out on opportunities about her favorite shows. “It's hard to choose just one thing,” she said. “But music and choreography are of course the top spot on my list!”
